2009 European Championship in Milan Italy- April 2-5 2009

In the beginning of April, the 2009 European Championship was held in Milan Italy.
A nice group of gymnasts represented Israel in this prestigious competition.
Hapoel Tel Aviv sent 3 gymnasts- Tali liak, Roni Rabinovitz and naama Berenshtien along with their coach, Zahava Ziaaman.
Another participate was the Ukrainian, Valeria Maksuta.
The girls competed on April 2nd and they were divided into 2 groups.
Naama and Tali were first to compete and they did a good competition- naama ranked in 44th place and Tali Ranked in 47th place.
Second to compete were Roni and Valeria.
Roni did a good competition on the first 3 apparatus but on vault, Roni had a mishap when she ran towards the apparatus and she fell forward leading her to touch the springboard and according to the international code of points, when a gymnast touches the springboard but doesn’t do the vault, the gymnast gets a 0 and that is why Roni ranked in 59th place.
Valeria got to the all around final and ranked in 20th place.
She also got to the beam final where she ranked in 6th place.
In the all around final, the Russian Ksenia Semenova got the gold medal, the Russian Ksenia Afanaseva got the silver medal and the Swiss Ariella Kaeslin got the bronze medal.
Orna Shai, the UEG representative, was the head judge on floor.
 
*The male Israeli gymnasts also did a good competition and Alex Shatilov was exceptional when he got to the all around final and ranked in 8th place and he got to the floor final, his best apparatus, and he won the bronze medal.
